Knollwood Baptist Church Embarks on a New Local Missions Project
Our church is starting a raised bed community garden here on our property (behind the church offices), and we need your help! We'll also have several off-site gardens in our own yards (two in Ardmore and one in Sherwood Forest).
The produce will go to a local Hispanic church’s members & their neighbors (Hispanic immigrants in Forsyth County suffer from food insecurity rates that are higher than the national average). These immigrants are reluctant to go to agencies for help, and our vegetables will be a great source of healthy organic food for them. Some of them are unemployed single mothers.
The people of El Buen Pastor Church are excited about receiving this food, and we want to help them out; but we’ll need your help to make it happen.
Would you please join us in one or more of the following areas below:
___I’d like to help garden one 4’x12’ plot for the first half of the gardening season (April-June)
___I’d like to help garden one 4’x12’ plot for the second half of the gardening season (July- August)
___If you have a handicap accessible garden for those who can’t kneel, I’d like to volunteer
___I’d like to give a financial donation to help buy supplies for the community garden
___I’d like to help build the trellises, bunny protection cages and raised beds for the gardens
___I’d like to donate the surplus produce from my own garden this summer to the El Buen Pastor immigrants
___I have a lot of gardening experience and would like to be a consultant
___I have garden materials (concrete wire, sand, composted manure, organic nutrients) that I’d like to donate to the community garden
___I’d like to help deliver the produce to the El Buen Pastor Church in Old Town (just off of Reynolda Rd., near Old Town Ele….can be delivered any day of the week)
___I have some friends who are not members who may be interested in helping out with this garden
___I know of an individual or business who may like to be a financial sponsor for this garden
Please check the areas you’d be interested in, and give us your contact information below.
Please return these sheets to us today while we’re here, or you can drop them off in the church library or in the church office by Feb. 14th. Your feedback will let us know if we have enough participation to get our garden up and growing as a new and exciting hands-on ministry for Knollwood and the surrounding community.

Margaret Mead: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
Christian theologian Walter Rauschenbusch said that the Kingdom of God "...is not a matter of getting individuals to heaven, but of transforming the life on earth into the harmony of heaven."
An Old Chinese Proverb: If you wish to be happy for a few hours, drink wine until your head spins pleasantly. If you wish to be happy for a few days, get married and hide away. If you wish to be happy for a week, roast a pig and have a feast. If you wish to be happy all your life, become a gardener.
